What is a coilover suspension?
Coilover suspension is a special type of construction that allows for significant adjustment of the car's ride height. This system is associated with the operation of shock absorbers, placed on special threads within each wheel of a given car.
It represents a substantial modification to the standard car's characteristics, being one of the fundamental components of mechanical tuning. It stiffens the car and influences its handling characteristics. This modification allows for a more predictable way to navigate through turns (even at higher speeds).
Structure of the coilover suspension
Coilover kits consist of four spring and shock absorber sets, composed of special springs and shock absorbers, terminated with specific threads. These threads enable users to increase or decrease the ground clearance of the vehicle without making significant modifications to the car's characteristics.
Special nuts, plates, and adjustment keys are also included in the coilover suspension to facilitate adjustments.
Advantages of coilover suspensions
Coilover suspension has numerous advantages. Primarily, it allows for easy adjustment of the vehicle's height to current needs, enabling users to raise or lower it. Such a solution is also commonly used as a sports suspension. The threaded design facilitates a change in the center of gravity, improving the driving parameters of the car. The vehicle will be less prone to body roll in corners, and acceleration dynamics will not affect the handling characteristics of the car.
Coilover suspensions are most frequently installed in tuned and sports cars that participate in street circuit races.
Disadvantages of coilover suspensions
Primarily, coilover suspension is not suitable for regular driving on diverse terrains. It significantly stiffens the car, making every road unevenness or pothole highly noticeable for all road users.
Threaded shock absorbers also require comprehensive maintenance, lubrication, and regular inspections. No play or improper fitting of individual components can occur on the threads, as this would significantly affect the vehicle's characteristics.
However, if you own a sports car or want to change its driving characteristics by conducting chassis tuning, a coilover suspension will be an excellent solution. In our offer, you will find components from top brands (such as D2 Racing) designed for various vehicle brands, including Audi, BMW, or Honda. We also stock other suspension system parts.
