AUDI B9 S4 S5 Intake

The Audi B9 S4/S5 Eventuri intake was developed to provide less restricted airflow to the turbocharger while maintaining low inlet temperatures. The S5/S4 engine bay heats up rapidly, so having an open cone system would simply result in better airflow but at higher inlet temperatures. Therefore, we completely re-engineered the inlet track from the turbocharger inlet pipe to the radiator shroud, creating a highly efficient, sealed system. The restrictive factory AirBox and flexible plastic inlet pipe were replaced with a Venturi filter housing and smooth channel system. Additionally, by removing the convoluted factory inlet pipe and replacing it with a one-piece Venturi housing and solid pipe, airflow is much smoother as it enters the turbocharger inlet pipe. The achieved performance gains and aesthetics are leading in the industry.

Eventuri Difference

The B9 S4/S5 Eventuri system utilizes our patented carbon fiber housings with our specially designed Gen-2 filter, providing an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from filter to inlet pipes. This is not just another cone filter with a heat shield, but a unique design that induces the Venturi effect. You can read more about the housing design and its operation HERE.

The intake system was road tested using a Vbox unit to record acceleration from 100 to 200 km/h. Tests were conducted on the same stretch of road - again on the same day to minimize variables. Results show that simply adding power reduced acceleration times from 100 to 200 km/h by 0.33 seconds, which is a significant improvement at such speeds. This demonstrates that gains measured on a dyno do not reflect how an intake performs on the road when it has proper airflow conditions - on the road, power delivery shows greater gains by reducing acceleration times compared to the dyno.

Performance Testing

Acceleration Results Summary:

100-200 km/h with factory intake = 12.45 seconds
100-200 km/h with Eventuri intake = 12.12 seconds

Gains come from a combination of reasons:

  1. The sealed system maintains low inlet air temperatures - especially with the front air scoop, which forces airflow into the system.

  2. The Venturi housing provides a smooth transition from filter to inlet pipe without convoluted rubber sections. This helps the turbine work more efficiently by maintaining laminar flow in the inlet track.

  3. The entire system is made from pre-preg carbon fiber, which insulates from heat effectively.

The B9 S4/S5 Eventuri intake consists of several components designed to fulfill a specific task and crafted with the utmost care. Here are the details of each component and its design concept:

The filter housing consists of our specially designed Gen-2 filter, a carbon fiber capsule, and an integrated pipe. The carbon fiber capsule surrounds the filter mounted in reverse and smoothly shapes the airflow downward to the turbocharger pipe, which it matches in diameter to the turbocharger pipe. This is a key feature of the intake design, where we eliminated the need for convoluted rubber hose between the inlet and the engine. The filter housing and integrated pipe extend all the way to the factory turbocharger pipe, and by mounting it to the engine, the entire filter housing moves with the engine. As the engine and filter housing move during acceleration, it is able to maintain a seal to the duct using an expanding rubber gasket mounted on the front side of the duct (see below).

This gradual decrease in cross-sectional area induces the Venturi effect, where the airflow accelerates while maintaining laminar conditions. This can be compared to a large velocity funnel - below is a diagram comparing our patented design to a standard intake system. Our individually crafted filters aid airflow passing through the housings and allow for an even velocity profile as airflow exits the housings.

The channel directs air from the scoop to the filter housing. It also creates a sealed volume of air surrounded by the scoop to provide filters with a ready source to draw from. The channel is designed to make the most of the available volume in the engine bay. To ensure good insulation from heat from the engine bay, the channel features flexible rubber seals around openings that press against the filter housing and factory inlet channel, creating the desired seal while allowing the housing to move with the engine. To further increase airflow, we added a second opening at the back of the channel in the cold zone of the engine bay. This geometrically complex element is a key part of our design for B9 S4/S5 models.

The final carbon fiber component in this system is the front scoop - essential for directing atmospheric air to the channel and then to the filter.

The scoop is designed with a constant curvature radius for maximum efficiency in directing incoming air to the channel openings. This allows for maintaining the lowest possible inlet air temperature and increases the rate of inlet temperature drop after the system has been heat soaked during a stop.

Custom Mounts

To ensure a perfect fit, we devote a lot of time to developing mounts. Just like in all our intakes, the mounts are specially designed for a given application, and for the B9 S4/S5 system, the mounts are laser-cut from stainless steel, then powder-coated for durability. They are then CNC machined mounts that are fastened to the brackets and clamped to the factory rubber mounts used by the factory airbox. This ensures that our intake fits just as snugly as the factory system.

All components come together in the engine bay, creating a genuine improvement to the driving experience and providing an amazing visual presentation of form and function in total harmony.
