The Eventuri intake system for the BMW F90 M5 has been developed based on extensive real-world testing and airflow simulation analysis. Now, in the updated V2 design, it features sealed filter enclosures to maintain a more stable intake air temperature even at rest. The new covers, which seal the enclosures, combined with our airflow guides and covers, ensure unrestricted airflow while maintaining low intake temperatures by saturating with cold air. Our large air inlets deliver atmospheric air directly to the intake area, ensuring the engine does not suffer from overheating. Additionally, our gold heat-reflective covers have integrated airflow guides that direct atmospheric air from the air inlets to the filters. We have also increased the cross-sectional area of the intake pipe inlet by over 30% compared to the standard version, as it passes through the cross members' holes. This allows the turbochargers to work without restrictions and reduces the workload on the blow-off valve.

Eventuri Difference

The F90 M5 Eventuri system utilizes our patented carbon fiber enclosures with our Gen 2 filters, providing an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbines. It is not just another cone filter with a heat shield, but a unique design that induces the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce turbine resistance. Performance Tests

Tests were conducted on the road using a Vbox unit to record acceleration from 60 to 130 mph. The tests were performed on the same stretch of road - again on the same day, to maintain minimal variables. The results show that adding just the intake - on standard software, reduced acceleration times from 60 to 130 mph by 0.22 seconds, which is a significant improvement at such speeds.

60-130 mph with Eventuri intake = 8.26 seconds

Gains come from a combination of several reasons:

  1. A larger volume intake pipe inlet allows the turbochargers to operate without excessive resistance.

  2. Venturi enclosures provide a smooth transition from the filter to the intake pipe, maintaining laminar airflow.

  3. Large air inlets force atmospheric air into the intakes, maintaining low intake temperatures.

The Eventuri F90 M5 intake system consists of several components designed to achieve a specific goal and made with the utmost care. Here are the details of each of these components and the design principles behind them:

The filter enclosures consist of our specially designed Gen 2 filters, aluminum inlet cowls, carbon covers, and integrated pipes. The carbon enclosures surround the inverted filters and smoothly shape the airflow downwards to the factory intake pipes of the turbochargers. This is a key feature of the intake design, where we have eliminated the need for complex rubber hoses between the Airbox and the intake pipes of the turbochargers. The filter enclosures and integrated pipes extend to the factory turbocharger pipes and can move as a single unit with the engine through the mounts. This eliminates additional interfaces resulting from the need for a separate complex hose, which the standard system requires due to flexibility, as factory Airboxes are mounted to the frame and cannot move. The result is a smoother path from the filter to the turbocharger inlets, allowing the turbochargers to operate with less resistance. The diagram below summarizes the differences between the factory intake and the Eventuri F90 system.

Intake Comparison

Another key design feature of the filter enclosures is the internal volume of the pipes as they pass through the mounts. In the case of the F90 M5, the intake system must pass through an oval opening in each mount before reaching the turbocharger inlets. We managed to increase the internal size of our intakes at this point, resulting in a larger available volume for the turbochargers to draw air and thus less resistance. The increase in cross-sectional area between the Eventuri system and the factory Airbox is 31% and is presented as follows:

PATENTED TECHNOLOGY

Our patented filter enclosures have a smooth reduction in cross-sectional area as they surround the filters and taper down to the pipes. This geometry induces the Venturi effect, where airflow accelerates while maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a high-speed stack - below is a diagram comparing our patented design to a regular intake system. Our specially crafted filters aid airflow through the enclosures and allow for a uniform velocity profile as the airflow exits the enclosures.

Carbon Fiber Shields

These carbon fiber shields are the latest addition to this intake system. They seal the openings from the filter enclosures to the engine bay, while allowing airflow to the filters from the inlets. The shields follow the design curves of the enclosures and extend to the inner fenders, where a rubber seal allows the intakes to move with the engine. Made from the same high-quality prepreg carbon fiber as the enclosures, the shields beautifully finish the intake system.

The filter enclosures sit on these laser-cut shields, which also have a gold reflective underlay that helps prevent heat radiation. The shields are attached to the enclosures and also serve as a housing for the openings of the enclosures from which cool air is drawn. This is assisted by integrated airflow ramps attached to the inside of each shield. These ramps direct air from the inlets upwards to the filters, so when the car is in motion - the airflow pushed into the channels from the inlets is then directly pushed into the filter area, displacing heat from the engine bay.

The final carbon fiber elements in this system are the front air channels - necessary for directing surrounding air to the filters.

The channels are designed for maximum efficiency in directing incoming air to the factory channel openings. Many aftermarket channels have a large flat surface almost perpendicular to the incoming air - this is not the best solution for directing it to the channels, as the airflow simply "hits" this flat part and creates turbulence.

Unlike most aftermarket "channels," Eventuri channels are designed to extend from the factory channel openings to the grilles. To capture as much air as possible, the channels have a shape that matches the outer contours of the grilles, and then smoothly guide the surrounding air through continuous curvature to the channel openings. Effective cold air inflow to the filters is a significant part of our design. Mere possession of heat shields is not an effective way to prevent heated air from entering the filters unless the shields create a tight shell around the filters. Inlets and shields in our system combine to provide ambient air to the filter openings and maintain a low intake air temperature.
