The intake configuration for the X3M/X4M BMW, although may seem cumbersome at first glance, is a very well-designed system within the available space. The airflow path from the filters to the turbocharger inlets is very straightforward and doesn't change direction as abruptly as in typical OEM Airbox designs. Instead of a complete redesign, we focused on improving the original OEM Airbox by increasing airflow and improving temperature efficiency. We developed drop-in replacement filters made of non-metal mesh, which have significantly higher airflow compared to factory paper filters. To help reduce intake temperatures and force airflow into the Airbox, we designed large front inlets located behind the grilles. The carbon fiber inlets direct air to the ducts and effectively reduce resistance on the intake side of the Airbox. The final component is the carbon fiber Airbox cover, which, although does not contribute to performance, allows for a more audible induction sound and provides the engine bay with much-needed aesthetics.
Eventuri Kit for BMW F97 X3M F98 X4M
The Eventuri intake system for X3M/X4M consists of a series of components designed to fulfill a specific purpose and crafted with the utmost precision.
Each intake system consists of:
- 1 x Carbon fiber Airbox cover
- 2 x Carbon fiber air ducts
- 4 x High-flow direct replacement filters
- Laser-cut stainless steel brackets
Carbon Fiber Airbox Cover
The impregnated carbon fiber Airbox cover has been replicated to the same dimensions as the original OEM version. There is minimal clearance above the cover to increase it, which could also disrupt the airflow path. Therefore, we kept the same dimensions and maintained a direct airflow path to the filters. Because the cover is made of carbon fiber, it is thinner and lighter than the factory cover, making the engine induction sound more audible.
High-Performance Air Filters
Eventuri rebuilt the original panel filters using high-flow non-metal mesh filter media, which is embedded in a very durable stainless steel mesh. The filter element allows for lower airflow restrictions while maintaining adequate filtration properties. The mesh is enclosed in a polyurethane surround, which is very stable at high temperatures and retains its shape, allowing for proper sealing at all times. Each set consists of 2 small and 2 large filters that fit perfectly in place of the original filters.
Carbon Fiber Air Ducts
The final components made of carbon fiber in this system are the front air ducts - essential for directing ambient air to the filters.
The ducts are designed for maximum efficiency in directing incoming air to the standard duct openings. Many aftermarket ducts have a large flat surface almost perpendicular to incoming air - which is not favorable for directing it to the ducts, as the airflow simply "hits" that flat part and creates turbulence.
Unlike most "ducts" available on the market, these from Eventuri are designed to extend from the standard duct openings all the way to the grille. To capture as much air as possible, the ducts have a shape tailored to the outer contours of the grille and smoothly guide ambient air through a continuous curve to the duct openings. By forcing air from the environment into the Airbox, heat saturation is reduced, and intake air temperature is lowered.
