The Eventuri air intake for the MK5 Supra was developed to provide the turbo with a less restricted airflow path while maintaining low intake temperatures. Heat and volume are the main factors considered when designing an air intake for turbocharged engines. In the Supra, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly heats up the engine bay. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance because the turbocharger would have to build pressure with hot, less dense air. Therefore, the only way to maintain the lowest possible intake temperatures is through a completely sealed air intake. However, this leads to restriction as only one standard air source can draw air into the system. During development, we noticed an additional opening in the fender area and utilized it by adding extra ducting to our airbox. Additionally, our sealed intake features a thermal shield with a gold reflective layer to minimize the transfer of radiant heat from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, we made the filter housing as large as possible, with a recess for potential trumpet supports. The standard pipe was replaced with a smooth carbon fiber tube, which is also larger in volume, starting with an inner diameter of 111 mm (4.4 inches), gradually tapering to match the turbo inlet. The tube provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet. Finally, we use a specially designed high-flow dry filter, tested for filtration efficiency according to ISO standards and featuring a larger filtering surface area than a standard filter.
Eventuri Kit for Toyota Supra Mk5 B48
The Eventuri intake system for the MK5 Supra consists of several components designed to fulfill specific tasks and made from high-quality materials. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber without any glass fiber, allowing us to achieve a smooth inner surface to maintain smoother airflow.
Each intake system includes:
- Carbon fiber airbox housing with dual inlets
- Individually crafted high-flow cone filter
- Carbon fiber intake tube with 111 mm inner diameter
- CNC machined temperature sensor mount
- CNC machined crankcase ventilation adapter
- Thermal shield with gold reflective backing
- Laser-cut steel brackets
- OEM-standard silicone connector with clamps
Airbox Housing with Dual Inlets
Made from pre-preg carbon fiber, the filter housing serves two purposes - sealing the filter from engine bay heat and providing dual cold air feeds. Since the intake system is positioned next to the exhaust manifold, it's crucial to completely seal the filter, so we designed the airbox to fully surround the filter while also providing a large internal volume. To seal the intake tube, we designed a laser-cut plate with a rubber sealing tape that attaches to the housing. The intake tube passes through the plate, and the rubber seal ensures that heated air doesn't enter the airbox. To further minimize heating, we applied an additional thermal shield with a gold reflective layer on the exhaust manifold side, effectively combating radiant heat transfer.
Having a fully sealed intake leads to the issue of limiting cold air influx. The standard airbox draws air from a single duct leading to the front bumper area. During development, we identified another area from which cold air could be drawn - the gap between the fenders and the underbody where the intake sits. To utilize this influx, we extended the intake to the rear, protruding towards the fender and even visible after installation behind the front wheel. This secondary inlet allows the turbo to draw air from a larger area, reducing restriction. Since the inlet extends into the fender area.
Our final consideration was for racing applications, where our optional headlight duct channel is used. We incorporated a removable panel on the side of the housing facing the headlight so that in case of using the optional duct, this panel can be removed for another direct cold air inlet to the filter.
Carbon Fiber Intake Tube
The standard intake tube has a flexible and convoluted section to accommodate engine movement. However, this also adds the potential for turbulence in the airflow path as there are multiple surfaces that can cause swirls. We replace this with our carbon fiber tube, which is smooth and also has a larger internal volume. Unlike most intake tubes available in the market, we maximized the size of our intake tube. The standard intake tube has an inner diameter of 80.8 mm or 3.2 inches at the filter end. Our tube has an inner diameter of 109 mm or 4.3 inches. This represents a massive 82% increase in cross-sectional area compared to the standard. The tube gradually tapers to the standard turbo inlet to ensure that the airflow remains as laminar as possible. The tube also features CNC machined mounts for the temperature sensor and crankcase ventilation adapter.
Individual High-Flow Cone Filter
Our cone filter is made from non-woven mesh material. It is dual-layered and ISO-tested to ensure that filtration meets OEM standards. The filter is washable and highly stable at high temperatures, with the base material being polyurethane. The filter includes an internal conical guiding structure to help streamline airflow while reducing the possibility of stagnation points within the filter space. The filtration media has a significantly larger surface area than a standard flat filter.
