The Mercedes A35 AMG Eventuri intake was developed to provide the turbocharger with a less restrictive airflow path while maintaining low intake temperatures. Reducing heat soak and increasing internal volume are the main factors to consider when designing intakes for turbocharged engines. In the A35 model, the intake system is located in close proximity to the exhaust manifold, causing rapid heat saturation of the engine compartment. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance because the turbocharger would have to build pressure from heated, less dense air, so the only way to ensure minimal intake temperatures is through a fully sealed intake. To reduce airflow resistance in the sealed intake, we increased the airbox volume by relocating the ECU and allowing the airbox to open on the cold side, away from direct heat from the exhaust manifold. The carbon intake pipe has a larger internal volume, with an initial internal diameter of 111 mm (4.4"), gradually narrowing to match the turbocharger inlet pipe. Finally, we use a specially made high-flow dry filter, tested to ISO standard for filtration efficiency, with a larger filtration area than the stock filter.

Performance Test

The performance tests were conducted by MSL Performance, Mercedes specialists based in the UK. A fully stock A35 AMG model with the original airbox was tested, then with the Eventuri intake, one after the other, ensuring consistent external conditions. As seen below, the intake provides performance gains across the entire RPM range. The marked point shows a significant increase in power, where the intake allows maintaining a higher flow speed in the higher RPM range, where the stock airbox starts to become a limitation. These results are noticeable on the road due to improved throttle response and acceleration times. With further tuning of the A35 model, even better results can be expected as the demand for acceleration from the turbocharger increases.

The Eventuri A35 intake system consists of several components designed to perform a specific task and made with the highest care. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber without fiberglass, which means we can achieve a smooth internal surface to maintain smoother airflow.

Each intake system includes:

• Carbon fiber housing
• Individually designed high-flow dry cone air filter
• Carbon fiber inlet pipe
• CNC machined inlet sleeve
• Laser-cut stainless steel brackets and ECU cover
• OEM specification silicone hose with clamps

Carbon Fiber Housing

Made of pre-preg carbon fiber, the housing serves two functions - sealing the filter from the heat of the engine compartment and providing dual cold air intake. Since the airbox is located next to the exhaust manifold, it is important that the filter is tightly sealed, so we designed the intake to shield the filter while providing a large internal volume. The intake pipe passes through a rubber seal in the airbox, which ensures that heated air does not enter the inside. By relocating the ECU, we were able to increase the height of the housing to maximize volume and allow for the use of a larger filter.Having a fully sealed airbox poses the problem of limiting cold airflow. The stock intake draws air from a single duct through a rubber section, which also has many ribs. Our design eliminates this rubber section and provides a smoother cold air entry path. Additionally, to eliminate restrictions in the intake, we added a cutout on the cold side of the intake near the hood latch, allowing the filter to draw additional air.

Custom Cone Filter

Our cone filter is made of a non-woven mesh material that is two-layered and has passed ISO tests to ensure that filtration meets OEM standards. The filter is washable and very stable at high temperatures, with its base material being polyurethane. The filter includes an internal conical flow direction that helps guide airflow, reducing the possibility of stagnation points inside the filter space. The filter's filtering surface has a much larger volume than the stock flat filter.
