BMW B58 M140i M240i M340i

Performance Increase: 12-15 HP, 14-18 Nm

The B58 Eventuri intake system is another example of our "Complete System" principle. It demonstrates a perfect balance between allowing unrestricted airflow through our open filter housing while maintaining low intake air temperatures through our combination of duct and shroud. Every detail has been meticulously designed, from carbon components to dual heat shields. This intake sets a new standard in design and craftsmanship for the B58 platform.

The B58 Eventuri system utilizes our patented carbon fiber housing, providing an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from filter to turbine. It is not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design that induces the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow conditions to reduce resistance at the turbocharger. You can learn more about the housing design and its operation here.

The Eventuri B58 Intake System consists of several components designed to fulfill specific tasks and crafted with the utmost care. Here are the details of each component and their design principles:

Each intake system comprises:

  • Filter housing and integrated MAF tube
  • CNC-cut MAF tube
  • High-flow air filter with dual cones
  • Aluminum shelf providing smooth airflow entry
  • Carbon fiber shroud
  • Filter covers
  • Dual-layer main heat shield
  • Dual-layer secondary heat shield
  • Laser-cut mounting brackets

Intake Housing Assembly

Carbon Intake Housing

The filter housing comprises a high-flow filter, aluminum shelf, laser-cut bracket, carbon heat shield, and the carbon base itself, which houses the MAF sensor and turbocharger inlet tube. The carbon base encloses the filter mounted inversely and smoothly shapes the airflow downward into the integrated MAF inlet tube. This gradual decrease in cross-sectional area induces the Venturi effect, where the airflow accelerates while maintaining laminar flow conditions. This can be likened to a large velocity cone - below is a diagram comparing our patented design to a standard intake system. The filter housing and inlet tube are integrated into a single continuous element, reducing the number of internal interfaces and enabling smoother airflow to the turbocharger. The tube diameter smoothly transitions from the required diameter at the MAF sensor end to a larger diameter at the turbocharger inlet.

Heat Shield

Heat Shield

The filter housing connects to the heat shield and an additional aluminum shield, preventing filter overheating from convective heat from the exhaust manifold. This, combined with our versatile dual-layer heat shields, ensures a very effective cold zone around the filter orifice.

Carbon Fiber Inlet Duct

Eventuri Inlet Duct

Eventuri Inlet Duct

The duct is designed for maximum efficiency in directing incoming air to the factory channels' openings. Many external channels have a large flat area almost perpendicular to the incoming air - not ideal for directing it into the channels as the airflow simply "hits" this flat area and creates turbulence. Eventuri channels are designed to sit directly behind the radiator grilles to capture as much air as possible, with a continuous curve to the channel opening to ensure that this airflow is effectively directed.

Main Heat Shield

Eventuri Main Heat Shield

Eventuri Heat Shield

A lot of attention has been paid to the heat shield as the intake is located next to the exhaust manifold. For this purpose, a dual-layer main shield with a silver layer on the exhaust side and black on the intake side is applied. The silver layer reflects radiant heat from the exhaust, while the black layer absorbs radiant heat on the intake side. The air gap between the two layers acts as an insulator, preventing the spread of conductive heat to the inner layer. The secondary shield can also be seen in the above picture behind the turbocharger inlet tube. During tests, a temperature drop of over 90 degrees Celsius was observed on the shield. The effectiveness of the shield leads to low intake air temperatures while driving.

Secondary Heat Shield

Eventuri Secondary Heat Shield

The final shield is mounted above the exhaust manifold and encompasses the turbocharger inlet, protecting it from direct heat saturation. Similar to the main shield, it is a dual-layer configuration with a silver layer on the exhaust side and black on the inlet tube side.

Performance Tests

Below is a dynamometer chart showing a comparison between the Eventuri system and the stock setup on a standard B58 M240i model. As seen, horsepower and torque are increased across a large part of the rev range. This translates to increased throttle response and full response to full acceleration, making the car much more eager to accelerate. At maximum revs, the power curve for the intake merges with the factory system - this occurs because on the dyno, the intake relies on a fan to force air through the duct and filter. At high revs, the fan simply isn't sufficient in delivering the required airflow - on the road, this wouldn't be an issue, and we would expect the intake to still gain power. The tests were conducted on the same day directly one after the other, and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency.
