AUDI 8V RS3 Intake

The Eventuri intake system for the Audi 8V RS3 sets a new standard in secondary air intake design. It was developed to achieve two goals:
1) Elimination of restrictions in the turbocharging path.
2) Maintenance of low intake temperatures.
The first goal was achieved by using pipes with an inner diameter of 88 mm up to the turbo and employing our unique Venturi housing to maintain laminar flow. The second goal was achieved by designing a closed system to supply cold air, ensuring that the turbo does not draw heated air from the engine compartment. The duct volume was maximized to enable the highest flow rate through the filter. The resulting performance and aesthetic enhancements are industry-leading for the Audi 8V RS3.

The Eventuri intake for the Audi 8V RS3 utilizes our patented carbon fiber housings, which provide an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo pipes. Guaranteed Power Increase

Extensive testing of this system was conducted both on the dyno and on the road. Firstly, dyno tests showed an impressive power increase of approximately 17HP and 25Nm. The increase is not only at the peak but also throughout the engine's rev range. This translates to increased response both in partial and full load driving, with the car much more eager to rev to the redline. Testing was conducted on the same day, in a comparative mode, and temperature was monitored to ensure consistency. The car was tested first with the standard intake - closed flap. Then we left the car on the dyno and installed the Eventuri. The car was restarted - flap closed. Several trials were conducted with both configurations to obtain a consistent result.

Road Tests

We then conducted road tests using a Vbox unit to record acceleration from 100 to 200 km/h. Testing was conducted on the same stretch of road - again on the same day to minimize variables. The results show that just adding the intake resulted in a reduction in acceleration times from 100 to 200 km/h by approximately 0.3 seconds, which is a significant change at these speeds.

Acceleration results summary:

100-200 km/h with standard intake = 10.271 seconds
100-200 km/h with Eventuri intake = 10.046 seconds

The gains come from a combination of several factors:

  1. A sealed system maintains low intake temperatures - the RS3 engine compartment can quickly overheat, so an open cone filter would cause an increase in intake air temperatures, preventing performance loss.

  2. The Venturi housing ensures a smooth transition from the filter to the intake pipes, which have a matched inner diameter of 88 mm. This helps the turbocharger work more efficiently.

  3. The entire system is made of pure pre-preg carbon fiber, which provides excellent insulation from heat.

The Eventuri 8V RS3 intake system consists of several components designed to meet specific goals and crafted with the utmost care. Here are the details of each component and the design assumptions associated with them:

The filter housing consists of a high-flow filter, aluminum shield, laser-cut brackets, and the carbon fiber base itself. Carbon fibers surround the filter mounted in reverse and smoothly shape the airflow downward to the intake pipes. This smooth cross-sectional area decrease induces the Venturi effect, where airflow accelerates while still maintaining laminar conditions. This can be likened to a large velocity cone - below is a diagram showing a comparison between our patented design and a regular intake system.

The duct guides atmospheric air from the front panel area to the filter housing. It fits the original pipe system and smoothly transitions into the circular shape of the filter housing. To ensure a good seal against heat from the engine compartment, it also features a flexible rubber seal around the opening, which presses against the filter housing, creating the desired seal while allowing the housing to move with the engine's operation. The duct is designed to have the maximum internal volume possible within the engine compartment geometry. This ensures that the filter housing can draw air with minimal resistance.

Our intake pipes are again entirely made of pre-preg carbon fiber. Each pipe has an inner diameter of 88 mm - standard pipes have a diameter of only 77 mm. The enlarged diameter allows the turbocharger to operate with less resistance and also enables even better performance with larger/hybrid turbochargers. The pipes smoothly guide airflow to the turbocharger, ensuring no sharp or sudden bends. The smooth bend geometry ensures the maintenance of laminar flow from the filters to the exits.

This kit, comprising these elements, ensures that the airflow remains smooth and uniform to the turbocharger, minimizing turbulence. The flow simulation below shows how smooth and full the flow is inside the intake pipes before the turbocharger. There is some circulation in the duct, as expected, but once the flow enters the pipes, it evens out, allowing the turbocharger to operate more efficiently.
