The Audi C8 RS6 inlet system is the result of extensive development, testing, and prototyping. Our aim was to fulfill two main criteria:
1) Increased airflow.
2) Smooth airflow.

The first objective was achieved by utilizing all the limited space available within the RS6 engine bay, which was heavily restricted by the underside of the hood. Our solution was to completely redesign the entire Airbox, maximizing volume, increasing inlet openings for airflow, and creating a more favorable filter angle relative to the turbochargers. Additionally, we dramatically increased the size of the turbo inlet ports by up to 85%, measuring the cross-sectional area at the openings. The second objective was achieved by designing an organically shaped system with a custom rounded flat filter to ensure that the airflow path contains no sharp edges, thus allowing for laminar flow. With smooth transitions from the filter to the turbo inlets, our inlet minimizes turbulence, allowing the turbochargers to operate more efficiently. We collaborated with BMC to obtain a custom filter element to ensure maximum filtration area while maintaining clean airflow.

With all objectives met, our C8 RS6 inlet system provides everything needed to efficiently generate turbocharger flow. This results in improved throttle response and significant power gains, independently tested, which increase with higher tuning stages. Power gains are measured as the effect of the complete system we developed, from the basic Airbox component to the cover and inlets.

Dyno Testing

Our inlet underwent independent dyno testing both on the dyno and on the road. With higher turbocharger tunes, the demand for air increases, making the standard Airbox a bigger limitation. Here are some results obtained by respected tuners who tested our inlet.

Factory Engine Map Testing

Testing on the dyno was conducted at Awesome GTI in the UK on their own C8 RS6 equipped with factory-fitted OPF delete exhaust system. The car was tested with factory mapping and their own Stage 1. The car was run 4 times in 4th gear with the factory inlet, then swapped to Eventuri while the car remained on the dyno. The car was then run again 4 times in 4th gear. The tests were conducted within one day with no other changes made. The graph below shows the highest power with the factory inlet compared to the highest power run with the Eventuri inlet. Both runs were first pulls on the dyno, subsequent pulls reduced power due to engine heatsoak. As seen below, the inlet provides a significant performance increase across the rev range with both the standard ECU and Stage 1. The highlighted point shows the largest increase in the rev range of 23HP at the wheels.

Stage 1 Testing

Here are the results from Stage 1 remapping by Awesome GTI. Both runs had the same map, with the only change being the inlet between runs. Again - the car was run 4 times in 4th gear with the factory inlet, then swapped to Eventuri while the car remained on the dyno. The highlighted point shows the largest increase in the rev range of 60HP at the wheels. As a result, gains are noticeable on the road, improving throttle response and acceleration times.

Dyno tests were conducted on an RS6 in Stage 2 by Eurocharged Canada on a car with exhaust tuning, intercoolers, and their own Stage 2 remap. Data here is shown at the wheels. The car was run multiple times with both the factory inlet and Eventuri, then the results below were presented after achieving the best results from the factory inlet compared to the best results from Eventuri. Again, we see a dramatic power increase, and as this is at Stage 2 level, the factory Airbox is even more of a limitation. The highlighted point shows the largest increase in the rev range of 79HP at the wheels.

Track Testing

We took the Stage 1 RS6 to a local race track to measure the impact of the inlet on quarter-mile times and 100-200 km/h times. The car ran 3 times with the factory Airbox to achieve a consistent result, then the inlet was swapped to Eventuri. The car then ran 3 times again to ensure the result is consistent. Here are the results:

Track Testing Results

Airflow Testing

Airflow tests were conducted using the Superflow SF-1020 to measure maximum flow at a 28" H2O pressure drop. The tests were conducted under controlled conditions on the same day, using the same test rig for each system. We tested just the turbo inlets, and then complete assemblies with the Airbox and turbo inlets for both the factory system and Eventuri.

Testing just the inlets showed a flow increase of 58% compared to stock. This is because our inlets increase the diameter on the filter side, allowing for much less restriction. Testing the complete system with Airbox showed a flow increase of 90% compared to stock, which is a significant improvement. This demonstrates how restrictive the stock Airbox is, with flow dropping by over 25% when adding the stock Airbox to stock inlets. In contrast, flow only drops by 11% when adding Eventuri inlet to Eventuri inlets. With a 90% flow increase, it's clear why significant power gains occur after tuning the C8 RS6 and when turbochargers require more flow to produce higher boost pressures.

The new design of the entire inlet encompasses its base where the filter is housed. We merged the front panel with the lower air duct and increased the volume of this area to enhance overall throughput. Additionally, the base was designed so that the filter sits at a more favorable angle to the turbo inlets. Where the stock Airbox has a 90-degree bend from the filter to the inlets, our Airbox has a less abrupt angle, allowing for a smoother flow path.

During development, we designed and tested 4 different cover designs, and test results showed that the V2 version achieved the highest performance. This design was optimized using CFD simulations and provides a smooth flow path from the filter to the inlets. Our design has a larger volume compared to the standard cover and is more organically shaped, with smoother curves than the standard cover, which is very boxy. Additionally, the turbo inlet openings have been significantly enlarged.

The inlets have been increased in cross-section on the filter side by up to 85% compared to stock inlets, then smoothly taper down to the standard turbo inlets. This larger size significantly reduces resistance in the turbochargers, allowing them to work more efficiently. Additionally, we applied CNC-machined stiffening elements in the inlets for increased structural strength. For cars with hybrid turbochargers, we also have separate inlets available upon request to accommodate different inlet diameters.

Our Airbox required a special flat filter, so we collaborated with BMC, who developed their iconic filter specifically for our system. It's a washable filter with a 4-layer cotton mesh, providing excellent filtration with low airflow resistance.

Innovative Housing

The entire inlet system comes together to provide an excellent Airbox, allowing the turbochargers to achieve target boost levels much earlier, meaning the engine can generate more power in the early RPM ranges. Combined with tuning where boost levels are increased, our inlet provides the required unobstructed flow path for the turbochargers to achieve elevated boost pressures.
