The S3 8Y intake from Eventuri is a complete redesign of the factory intake up to the turbo inlet. Drawing from our RS3 intake, Eventuri maximized the available space, creating an intake capable of handling all power levels from stock to high-power with hybrid or full-frame turbos. This intake system was developed to provide the highest possible airflow while maintaining the lowest intake temperatures possible. Every component is designed to provide the turbocharger with a smooth and unrestricted flow path.

The restrictive 73 mm inlet pipe has been replaced with a larger 94 mm inlet pipe. The filter itself has an outer diameter of 192 mm or 7.5 inches, with a filtration area of over 110,000 mm2. The patented Venturi housing is designed to provide maximum internal volume achievable in the available space of the S3 engine bay and provides laminar flow to the turbo inlet pipe. Lastly, the duct seals the filter opening to the front impact panel but isn't restricted to only the standard air inlet. Venturi raised the front of the duct to now provide an additional opening behind the grille, equivalent to an extra 7-inch diameter hole from which the intake can draw air. The resultant system can significantly exceed the airflow of a standard air filter while maintaining minimal intake temperatures due to its sealed design.

The S3 8Y Eventuri system utilizes our patented carbon fiber housings, which provide an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo inlet pipe. This is not just another cone filter with a heat shield but a unique design that invokes the Venturi effect. More information about the housing design and its operation can be found HERE.

The Eventuri S3 8Y intake system consists of several components designed to meet specific objectives and crafted with the utmost care. We use 100% pre-preg carbon fiber, without any glass fiber, meaning we can achieve a smooth internal surface for smoother airflow. Here are the details of each component and the design philosophy behind them:

Eventuri Patented Technology

The S3 housing consists of a dedicated high-flow filter, aluminum shield, laser-cut bracket, and the carbon fiber shield itself. The carbon fiber shield surrounds the filter mounted in reverse and smoothly shapes the airflow downwards towards the intake pipes. This smooth decrease in cross-sectional area invokes the Venturi effect, where airflow accelerates while maintaining laminar conditions. This can be likened to a large velocity stack - below is a diagram showing the comparison between our patented design and a regular intake system.

Custom Cone Filter

To achieve the highest possible airflow, Eventuri designed a new filter element to make the best use of the available space in the engine bay. The new filter has an outer diameter of 192 mm or 7.6 inches and during flow bench testing with a 4-inch diameter opening housing, it is able to achieve flows up to 900 CFM at 28" H2O. The center of the filter is tested to ISO standards to ensure filtration meets OEM standards and is also dry. The filter is constructed with our signature flow vanes to assist in the Venturi principle of the housing.

Real Carbon Fiber Intake Duct

The duct channels air from the front panel area to the filter housing. It conforms to the original front panel area and smoothly transitions into the round shape of the filter housing. To ensure a good seal against heat from the engine bay, it also features a flexible rubber edge around the opening that presses against the filter housings, creating the desired seal while allowing the housing to move with the engine. Because it was designed to support high-power builds, we found that standard openings in the front panel may cause restrictions under high flow demand. Therefore, we raised the upper surface of the duct and created an opening above the front panel, which is able to draw cold air from behind the closed hood. This additional opening is equivalent to a hole over 7 inches in diameter and completely eliminates restrictions in cold air delivery. The duct was designed to have the maximum internal volume possible in the given engine bay geometry. This ensures that the filter housing can draw air with minimal restriction.

 Silicone Intake Connector

The silicone connector included by Eventuri replaces the original flexible hose to the turbo inlet. It has been made to accommodate the outlet diameter of our 94 mm diameter filter housing, which is significantly larger than the factory 73 mm diameter pipe. This means an increase in cross-sectional area by over 60%. The silicone hose maintains this diameter for as long as possible before smoothly tapering to the original turbo inlet.

Dyno Testing

The Eventuri S3 8Y intake was independently tested on an MK8 Golf R by a renowned tuner from the UK, Regal Autosport. Tests were conducted on the MK8 Golf R with standard and with tuning module applied. Tests were conducted on the same day, first with the standard airbox, then Eventuri was installed. No other changes were made to the car. The first chart shows the results using standard mapping. As can be seen, there is a measurable power increase throughout the rev range, up to 12 HP. This increase, even on a stock car, is noticeable on the road due to improved throttle response and faster acceleration. The second chart shows the results using the tuning module, which increases airflow demand through the intake system. The tuning module was used with both the standard airbox and the Eventuri intake, with no changes between tests. With increased airflow demand, the standard airbox becomes a larger restriction to the turbocharger, as evidenced by the significant power increase achieved by using the Eventuri intake. We now have higher power gains throughout the rev range, up to 20 HP and 30 Nm, which are even more noticeable on the road. We expect gains to be even greater at higher tuning levels.

Flow Bench Testing

Flow speed tests were conducted using the Superflow SF-1020 device to measure maximum flow speed at a pressure drop of 28” H2O. The tests were conducted on the same day under controlled conditions, using the same test equipment for each system. We tested our full intake system against the standard airbox system for both the R and GTi variants. Results show that maximum flow increased by an additional 72% for the Golf R system. It is significant that this was achieved with a sealed intake system, so intake temperatures will also be kept to a minimum.

Gains are a result of a combination of factors:

  1. A sealed system maintains low intake temperatures (IAT) - the Audi engine bay can heat up very quickly, meaning an open cone filter will cause an increase in IAT values, resulting in performance loss.

  2. The Venturi housing provides a smooth transition from the filter to the intake pipes, which are matched to the internal diameter of 94 mm. This helps the turbocharger work more efficiently.

  3. The entire system is made from pure pre-preg carbon fiber, which perfectly insulates against heat and has smooth internal surfaces, unlike fiberglass, which may have present resin lines.
